Film-debate: The genius of trees

June 2024, Nancy

The Salle Fayolle at Lycée Poincaré was packed to the rafters for the film-debate on the documentary "Le génie des arbres", directed by Emmanuelle Nobécourt in 2020.

Exchanges with two scientists from INRAE enabled us to extend our thoughts on the superheroes that are trees:
→ Francis Martin, one of the world's leading forestry specialists. Head of the ARBRE laboratory of excellence at INRAE (Institut National de Recherche de l'Agriculture, de l'Alimentation et de l'Environnement) in Nancy, he has discovered how trees and fungi communicate with each other.
→ Jana Dlouha, researcher and biomechanic at INRAE.

The film showed us that trees are mankind's best allies in preserving life on Earth. Although they have lived in all climates and particularly hostile situations, they are also very fragile in the face of rapid climate change. In this film, science highlights the invaluable role of trees and reveals their superpowers on a molecular and planetary scale. Hypersensitive and ultra-connected, trees are in constant interaction with their environment. They are a model of resilience, energy balance and resource management.
