Let's rewild France

Gilbert Cochet and Stéphane Durand

A plea for wild and free nature

Over the course of the 20th century, the defeat of the savage seemed total. We have gradually emptied our surroundings. The litany of disappearances continues daily, with decision-makers indifferent, and scientists predict a biological annihilation that would shake the very foundations of human civilization. Yet this is an optimistic book. All is not lost, far from it. For, despite everything we've done to it, nature is resisting. Better still, it's coming back! Our country is best placed to lead the race for Europe's most beautiful countryside. Encouraging the return of wild nature is an excellent development factor. Our natural wealth is renewable and non-disposable. It's tomorrow's economic challenge.

Europe rewilded

Gilbert Cochet and Béatrice Kremer-Cochet

Towards a new world

This European tour of the state of rewilding in various natural environments reveals that, despite the near-extinction of many iconic species, inspiring and successful initiatives are springing up in every country. Bison, bears, eagles, sturgeons and seals are making a comeback. The cohabitation of man and the wild is thus proving possible.

This book, based on the sharing of positive experiences, encourages reflection and action. To move forward and overcome obstacles, sometimes all it takes is a change of perspective.
